Ivy Bridge Academy English Writing Class After-School & Weekend Academic Camp

Children often do not enjoy writing. In many instances this is due to their lack of knowledge as to how to write properly. Lack of individual feedback keeps them making the same errors repeatedly, and lack of time keeps them from rewriting and thus improving. Yet, especially on standardized tests, students must show what they have learned through writing. The IBA writing program is designed to teach each student at his or her own level by providing models, individual feedback, and time and teacher assistance to rewrite and thereby learn from their mistakes.
Students will be taught:

  • Brainstorming
  • Organizing by creating various types of webs
  • Using correct grammar and punctuation
  • Researching a topic to support a thesis
  • Writing a strong, arguable thesis
  • Transitioning from one paragraph to another
  • Vocabulary acquisition
  • “Show, don’t tell” to make writing interesting

It’s never too early or too late to learn to write clearly and effectively.

Reading is Job Number 1! Learning to Read vs Reading to Learn is the critical turning point after Grade 3. Students must reach grade level reading skills by second and third grade if they are to achieve high academic standards in middle and high schools. IBA Language Arts and Literacy Programs are designed to ensure that our students reach and exceed these important benchmarks.

We use only qualified teachers who follow the Core Curriculum Standards as a guide for instructions.

  • Read grade-level books
  • Analyze and summarize literary styles
  • Discuss format and grammar
  • Research topics of interest
  • Learn to speak creatively and forcefully
  • Discuss elements of a good story
  • Identify arguments and thesis of the story
  • Promote a passion for a lifetime of reading!

IBA is Member School of National Forensic League NFL & NJFL.
